The Subway Rambler (Online)

This isn't from some guy who just spends his time rambling around the tunnels of the MTA. The name is a shortened form of the blog's original title, "That Rambling Guy on the Subway, Online." Hope that clears things up for you.

The Heartbreak Kid (Redux)

The remake, that is - Farrelly Bros. with Ben Stiller. For some reason, I feel like the Farrelleys never fell off in quality - I still laugh pretty hard at their films - but there was a brief period when the were in vogue, and now they're not.

Oh, well.

Some movies never need to be remade...that is one of them. The Charles Grodin/Elaine May combo is hard to beat.
Speaking of which..have you ever seen A New Leaf?

I was thinking about the remake angle while watching it, and realized that if I'd seen the original (which I haven't), I'm sure I would have judged it poorly. Although Charles Grodin has always rubbed me the wrong way, so there's a chance I would have been unimpressed with the original.

I also - horror of horrors - think that Neil Simon is VASTLY overrated, and anytime I see one of his plays or films that people say is a classic, I'm bored. His writing is obvious and clichéd, and I never find it funny. The Farrelleys, as flat and lame as they can be, are rarely unfunny.

Bear in mind that I'm the guy who prefers the rhythms of the Randall/Klugman team to Lemmon/Matthau, so take that with a grain of salt.

I've never even HEARD of a "A New Leaf." Let me add it to my queue, and I'll let you know.

Although, yes, Elaine May is beyond funny in almost everything, so she may be the reason to see the original.
