Do I Not Have One Upbeat Song?
I know that I've sort of staked out territory for myself in mopeland when it comes to songwriting, but I'll admit to being a little annoyed that I can't seem to think of a single number from my fifteen-year catalog that I would be able to sit down and play as a solo performance with acoustic guitar that I would truly call 'uptempo.'
It's not to say that I haven't written fast, major key songs. I even have songs with happy lyrics and bright, poppy melodies. But all of those songs seem (at least to my ear) to require the presence of a full band to work properly. So maybe the problem here isn't with my writing, it's with my guitar playing.
Hmm.

Most of mine fall into the mid-tempo category as well..
not many 'upbeat' songs I like... you write what you like, I don't think you really like upbeat songs..
No, I very much like fast songs. I think, believe it or not, I'm sort of scared of writing fast songs because I got the feeling that when I was first starting to write, my faster numbers were the ones you liked the least.
But I've also slowed as I've aged. So who knows?

Thats not true.. I always liked that one song that had that long riff break in the middle of it.. off your first demo with Kevin.. that was uptempo.. the one that ended with the na na nas...
"Steeple Chase." I know - I think you took the riff from it for something else, didn't you?

There might be a little bit of it in a snippet on Kick the Cat.
Ah, but did your up-tempo song of yore still have melancholy lyrics?...
